  • Is it normal for a freelancer to request admin access to GA4&GSC?

I’m about to work with a freelancer SEO and they are asking for Admin access to GA4 & to be Delegated Owner for GSC.

I’m a noob looking for SEO so not sure if that was normal or will impact anything. Pls don’t toast me lol

It’s normal, they need access to search data to help you. Otherwise they’re making suggestions with 3rd party tools.

They shouldn’t need full admin or owner to see the information they want if you feel like you can’t trust them. But they do need to be able to see the information.

Relatively normal, especially for GSC, as that’s an SEO’s holy grail

I’d be more concerned if they didn’t ask for it tbh!

They don’t need ownership or admin access nor should you grant it. Give them read only sccess.

Not uncommon, but be cautious! Granting admin access can be a security risk. Consider creating a custom role with limited permissions or using a separate GA4 property for them to work on. Protect your data!

Can’t make the magic without the data.

It depends why they need the access. If they’re going to help you in setting up stuff ie. integrate with SEMRUSH, they may need admin access to do so.

However, if it’s just reading/viewing data, a manager role etc should be sufficient

GA4 is good if the freelancer is going to build you out some custom reporting like the old UA, but they only need Editor access for that. Difference between admin and editor in GA is admin gets access to user management.

To the note about on GSC, admin is ideal. It’ll let them do what they need to do more effectively.

They don’t need to be GSC owner, they just need access. For GA4 it depends if they’re building reports or not.

In 14 years of running an SEO agency, I’ve never needed to log into a clients’ GSC.

I have, but I have never needed to.

    SEO is about increasing rank.

What are you doing in GSC that is enhancing rank?
