Is anyone seeing a lot of ranking position changes the past 2 weeks?
I know there was a spam link update.
And obviously, traffic is different during the holiday week/people traveling.
But when I check my position changes each day – I have noticed a substantial. I looked back and this looks like it had two waves to it. Started mid month and 1st wave peaked 12/21-23. Slowed down, but swinging again the past two days.
My questions are
1- Is this normal year end activity due to lower search volumes?
2 – Is it update related? How can you tell?

Had the same thing happen to me on Christmas Eve my traffic started taking and it continued that way all the way until yesterday where I started getting traffic that I was use to.
I wasn’t sure wether it was seasonality or an update.
But it didn’t matter I adapted for both but adding and author bio to show experience and pumped out 10 new articles in that time.
Don’t watch the chart daily for traffic it will make you nauseous.
Just make good content and make sure your site is healthy.
Then check back in a month or so to see what’s changed.

Do you mean your position for keywords has changed? Or your overall traffic from search?
If you mean the second, you’re absolutely right about the holidays and it definitely makes a difference to your traffic depending on your industry.
If you mean your position for keywords has changed, this isn’t something I’d expect to see from the holiday period but definitely during algorithm updates!
If you’re finding it levels out again then I wouldn’t worry. If you don’t regain your positions then I’d be checking SERPs to see who outranks you now and what they’re doing differently.
