Like … We’d all love to see an app eclipse and even kill Twitter. But if it’s made by insta / meta … Ugh.

People don’t want an alternative to Twitter, there’s Mastodon for that. They want an alternative to Musk

My opinion on this is it’s great for brands who don’t want to have to rebuild their community from the ground up on a different app. I think it will be very successful in that aspect.

However, when it comes to individual users migrating to this app, I think a lot of people will be wary to do so, primarily because of the “one click” follow from Instagram and Facebook. I know a lot of my friends (and myself) like to use Twitter differently than we do Instagram and Facebook. We like to keep our Twitter geared towards a smaller group of friends that we choose, whereas Instagram we keep public to stay connected with old friends from years ago. I think if, on Threads, more people you know in real life start following you, a lot of users will be deterred by that. Especially those who use Twitter for more of the “fandom” aspect of it – think Swifties, BTS Army, soccer fans, Harry Styles fans, etc. All these people like to keep private on their fan accounts so people IRL don’t find them.

Additionally, I think the data that Meta will collect through Threads poses a huge issue. I think the app being made by Meta may make some users extremely wary of it. But, people continue to use Instagram and Facebook when they are collecting the same info.

It will be very interesting to see if this will actually compete with Twitter at all. I do think the majority of users are sick of Musk’s games and stupid decisions and are looking for anything close to the same level to jump ship to. I’ll be tracking Threads success (or failure) because this is the first app I think may actually have a shot at getting more *brands* to use.

The integration with Instagram was genius. It will make it much easier than having to deal with handle/domain poachers who may try to steal users’ brand handles.

While Instagram’s Threads app offers a unique and fast-moving experience for sharing updates with close friends, it’s important to note that Twitter and Threads serve different purposes and cater to different audiences. While Threads focuses on private, close-knit communication between a select group of friends, Twitter is a public platform that allows users to share their thoughts, engage in discussions, and connect with a wide range of individuals.

Twitter’s strength lies in its real-time, open nature, where users can participate in public conversations, follow trending topics, and engage with a diverse community. It has become a popular platform for news, information sharing, and networking among professionals, journalists, and individuals with specific interests.

While Threads may offer a more intimate and private experience, it doesn’t have the same reach and scope as Twitter. Twitter’s vast user base and ability to generate viral conversations and trends make it a powerful platform for news dissemination, social commentary, and building a public persona or brand.

It’s worth noting that social media platforms often evolve and introduce new features in response to user demands and market trends. While Threads may provide a fast-moving experience within its niche, Twitter’s unique features and established position in the social media landscape make it a formidable platform that serves a distinct purpose.

Ultimately, the success and impact of an app or platform depend on various factors, including user adoption, engagement, and the ability to cater to different needs and preferences.

How do you get reach on Threads there is no # or something. Would be awful if your followers are the only one that can see your post.

No. Twitter will never lose to threads. Literally only reason is because twitter isn’t soft and doesn’t report you just for saying swear words

The thing is, can’t ya make a different account that’s unrelated to the Meta one(s) that ya have like FB, so you can post ya own stuff without worrying to be connected to the main one that ya use?..
