Instagram not letting me follow one specific account
I’m trying to follow a friend but it’s not letting me follow them, it’s giving me an error message saying “Try Again Later; We restrict certain activity to protect our community.” It’s also not letting me send a message to this user but I can view their highlights, posts, and stories. This person doesn’t have me blocked or restricted as I’ve tried restricting my alt account and it was still able to follow me. I’ve tried re-downloading the app too, what do I do, why is this happening?

Have you followed a lot of people lately?
I got a similar message trying to reset my password because apparently I tried too many times to guess the old one… they will limit any activity they think you’re doing too much of. The sucky thing is they don’t say for how long. Just wait a week and try again. -
This is what happens when you are shadow banned. You have violated any of instagram’s policies. If you have been following too many accounts, or liking too many posts over a short period of time, this might happen as it’s considered spamming. Shadow bans have a duration of 14 days.

I followed too many accounts in a short amount of time, and it took about ~1 year until I could follow accounts again. Numerous support tickets with no reply, it’s like you’re trapped in a Kafkaesque nightmare. Eventually it started working again, never received any notification from Instagram.
