    ‘Include in Conversions’ & Optimization

Posted by seohelper on August 27, 2021 at 8:28 am

Hello everyone! I have a question, which I have not been able to find a clear answer by myself.

So, Google states that if you want your automated bidding strategy to optimise towards a conversion action, you need to set ‘Include in Conversions’ to ‘Yes’. Thus, if I have a conversion action set as ‘No’, but I have chosen this specific conversion action to be my campaign’s conversion action, the automated bidding strategy does not learn to optimize towards this as the ‘Include in Conversions’ is not set as ‘Yes’. Am I correct?

I have an e-commerce case where transactions are the primary conversion we want to follow, and hence, it is the only conversion action set as ‘Include in Conversions – Yes’. However, I have made some lead magnet campaigns with a PDF download, and the download conversion action is set as ‘Include in Conversions – No’, because I don’t want it to mess up the existing campaigns (which have account-level conversion settings and are suppose to optimize only towards transactions).

Now I’m thinking, do I need to set the lead magnet’s conversion action to ‘Include in Conversions – Yes’ and just change all the campaigns that are suppose to optimize towards transactions away from account-level and choose the specific conversion action instead?

I hope this explanation and question made at least some sort of sense. 😀 Thanks already in advance.

you need to use conversion action sets https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/9119706?hl=en

These will let you set different conversions for different campaigns. Have your ecomm campaigns use the account default conversions for transactions and the lead magnet campaigns use your lead conversions.

You’ll need to go through all campaigns and switch from account level conversions, to conversion action sets or campaign-level conversions, then re-enable the conversion action at the account level.
