So, I’ve run my own YouTube channel and have been successful with it. I understand the YT algorithm and Google Analytics. I have many other successful YouTubers as mentors and collaborators.

While my channel may not have 1 million subs (I’m sitting at about 145,000 subs with 56 million views.) I have gained some excellent knowledge through the years.

    My goals:
    – I want to start freelancing on the side, build a portfolio and eventually do it full time.
    – I LOVE strategizing and working with others to help them build their accounts. I’ve done it several times throughout my career as a YouTube.
    – I need to figure out pricing that is decent for both my clients and myself.

I obviously need to start out at a fair price. So what would you guys suggest? I also do graphic design, and I thought of having a package where I sit down with small businesses and help them find an identity for their brands. A fresh logo for their social media can breathe new life into their business.

So, basically I need advice. I’m 100% positive I can make an impact and help others get on their feet.

It’s not entirely clear from your post whether you are looking to help other YouTubers grow, or help small businesses or businesses in general. These are two different things, though.

If you have a lot of experience in growing a YouTube channel, I don’t see why you couldn’t help others achieve the same as long as you have sufficient strategy knowledge.

I am less confident whether your background would make you a trusted partner for brands. At the very least, I’d look into doing an internship or two at a reputable agency to get a better idea of typical workflows and communication styles.

I mean, especially for small business owners, you can probably also go without, but I’d presume that you’d love to grow your freelance business and get more prestigious clients as time goes on – but if you don’t have a decent grasp of how things work, you will have a hard time leveling up, and the experience you are going to get will hardly translate to making you more attractive for “relevant” companies.

Then again, maybe you’re not the “social media strategist” guy but a resource to tap into when it comes to growing YouTube channels organically. Just be sure not to bite off more than you can chew.

As for me personally, I don’t think I’d seriously consider somebody for the task of creating a social media strategy for a client whose only credentials were their own YouTube channel.

This doesn’t sound too clear if I’m honest. What about all other social platforms? What about digital? What about their consumers? Design isn’t usually what a strategist offers, do you have direct experience in strategy? What kind of strategy are you wanting to do… brand, influencers… I think you need to be a lot clearer on the focus and just lean into doing what you enjoy. If you’ve got a user base can’t you offer them and scale up from there? We’ve not really got much to go on here.

If you have 145k subscribers, you should be able to monetize YouTube on your own decently. I would try that and then figure out what your monthly revenue is from that and break that down to an hourly rate. That way, you can figure out whether an opportunity makes sense or not given the opportunity cost.
