  • I did a mistake switching from Python dev to SEO

Posted by seohelper on April 17, 2021 at 12:48 am

I am 23 and i learned Python and other major used languages above average, In college i started internship but i didn’t like the atmosphere in thr it was mostly manager yelling for deadlines news changes copypastes i thought I’d learn to build something new,

I had no one who could have guided me

I saw digital marketing and ‘SEO’ Caught my attention it was interesting, easy (technical side) , i knew its a very broad field and a lot of factors affect SEO therefore i started learning it (self learn) . After a year i ranked my website for 7 keywords globally , e.g for a keyword related to ‘gpay’ only google had outranked me and i am still there om first page

I wont say i am god in SEO But i knw it quite good

So after 2 years i started freelancing on started my shell company , when i started exploring market i was terrified as in my country (INDIA) The 80% companies , startups dont know what an seo is and if we tell benefits what they think a cluster of traffic will emerge from nowhere and go to their site and buy their products. They will eat up your head if you fail to bring traffic and sales.

I rank #1 for 2 longtail keywords om fiverr i still dont get orders i dont charge for audit i only charge for optimization starts from (5$) obv i lack somewhere

➡️ i offer low prices for services which my make client think its a low quality service

➡️ previous level 1,2 sellers and sellers with a lot of reviews and more.

In my country if you want a job as an SEO guy you’d be paid around 12k-17k in rupees i.e 160$ -220$ per month they have contacts which help them to take projects from us uk etc take huge amounts from clients and make us work and pay very less

I tried cold emailing for 3 months no one replied i have my website offering services which rank locally but people here with local business aren’t interested in all this online crap for thier business or they will go for a big firm.

I don’t knw how to find clients, all the videos over YouTube for that topic is outdated people are smart they won’t lend you thier business’s website over an email

I need some advice what should i do from people in this subreddit

Thank you for reading it till the end!

I dont know if my post goes against guidelines sorry

I shud have became a doctor instead, i am tired?

Don’t try and sell seo to business owners. Sell it to other Seo’s. Set up accounts on legitt.com, konker.io and black hat world. It’s a lot easier to sell links and seo services to people who already know about it than spam email random business owners.

I think a huge mistake in SEO is trying to game the system. While it might gain short term boosts in the long run you are going to fight over and over with algorithm shifts. The best value you can give is actual, repeatable, and meaningful content to drive viewership.

Knowing python and SEO is a killer combo. Pat from Starter Story wrote a book about his such skills and earning thousands. You could use your skills to automate SEO processes. Something other seo ppl don’t know. Use your knowledge from one domaiknto other.

May I know why are you searching for SEO clients?

Why don’t you work on your own project or blog to build?

I have friends that are making $100K/year with SEO.

Nobody wants to deal with Indian seos. You are wasting your time cold emailing businesses… the other 50,000 emails from your fellow countrymen seo’s that week mean you’re fighting a battle you can’t win sending emails that say “I’m a really good Indian seo….” its instant delete stuff (if you can even avoid automated spam filters in the first place).

If you think you’re good at seo then put your money where your mouth is. Start ranking affiliate sites and forget about chasing clients who think you’re a 3rd world spammer and won’t give you the time of day anyway.

The biggest tips would be these:

    1. Start working for a marketing/SEO company (probably not in India as they pay less). So, literally take 8 hours of the day searching for job offers and send CVs. Literally every single day! You’ll get a job sooner or later (SEO is a patience game, so finding job will be in the same manner – around 3-6 months to get a good job!
    2. If you’ve not ranked a website before (ranking for ‘hard keywords’ does not mean anything), that can give you 1k per month revenue, then you need to understand that still you are “Junior” level in this space. So, if someone offers you job as a “junior” just accept the offer!
    3. SEO is all about the experiments & tests. If you have not tested different approached in different GEOs of Google, then probably you won’t be interesting candidate for many big EU/USA companies. For instance, have you tested what’s working in Bulgarian Google? Have you tested what’s working in Swedish Google? Have you tested different verticals – including YMYL or evergreen stuff like detox, weight loss, etc? If you have not done this, then you are not SEO Pro. Just start working as a junior and you’ll get to ‘desirable’ destination sooner or later. SEO is not a magic pill! You can’t learn SEO in 1 or two years, it takes YEARS to master this craft, especially when you have no budget at the start. So, again – start working as a ‘junior’ in SEO company and you’ll get to the SEO PRO level in 1-3 years eventually.

Your seo fellows killed the reputation of the services coming from your homeland, the majority of my clients had bad experiences with Indians.

Haha, SEO is mostly scam. The real work is in PR (white hat).

I see that you’re from India. I’m afraid that Indian managers tend to be very arrogant (but at the same time brownnosers to their superiors). It’s unfortunate.

I suggest that you package your resume and try to get a graduate degree in CS.
