\#observation – People whose hide the double tick read receipts on WhatsApp – whether they want to hide something or have have no decision making powers u/WhatsApp
Do you think they would have any other reason for this?

plain and simple privacy. same as the late addition of the ability to turn off the online status. privacy.
but the issue here maybe is another one. are you ok? need to unburden?

Just privacy, people don’t want to be pressured to answer right away, nor they want to show they read the messages or not or they simply don’t want/need to show if they are online. It removes the anxiety of being ON all the time and if the other person is stalking them is a measure of safety.
