  • How to reach a specific location-based audience on social media platforms?

Posted by mariamur on July 4, 2023 at 2:40 pm

    Hi everyone!

We are a startup in Spain that wants to target the American market.

We have been creating some TikTok content and setting the location to the USA, but we noticed that most of the viewers are still from Spain (based on their names).

Has anyone faced a similar challenge of reaching a certain location-based audience on social media platforms? How did you overcome it?

Do you know if location also matters for Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn?

Could it also be related to the phone number we have our accounts associated with?

Any advice or insight would be appreciated!Thank you!

Targeting a specific location-based audience on social media platforms can be achieved through various strategies. Here are some approaches to help you reach your target audience in the American market:

Utilize geo-targeted advertising: Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter offer advanced advertising options that allow you to target specific locations. Use their ad platforms to create campaigns targeted specifically at the American market. You can set your ad targeting to specific cities, states, or regions within the United States.

Leverage location-based hashtags: Research and use location-specific hashtags that are popular among the American audience. This can help your content reach users who are interested in or located in the specific region you are targeting.

Collaborate with local influencers: Identify and collaborate with influencers based in the United States who have a significant following in your target market. They can help promote your content and products to their American audience, thereby increasing your reach and engagement within that specific location.

Engage with local communities and groups: Join relevant online communities, groups, and forums that cater to your target audience in the United States. Participate in discussions, provide valuable insights, and establish yourself as a knowledgeable presence within those communities. This can help you gain visibility and attract followers from the specific location you are targeting.

Optimize your profile and content for location-based keywords: Use location-specific keywords in your social media profiles, bios, and content captions. This can help search algorithms recognize and associate your content with the American market, making it more likely to be shown to users in that location.

Consider localizing your content: Create content that resonates with your American target audience. Take into account their interests, cultural references, and preferences. This can help you establish a stronger connection with the specific location you are targeting.

Regarding your question about the phone number associated with your accounts, it is unlikely to impact your audience targeting on social media platforms. Location targeting is primarily based on the location settings you choose within the platform’s advertising tools, rather than the phone number associated with the account.

Remember to monitor your analytics and engagement metrics to assess the effectiveness of your location-based targeting efforts. Adjust your strategies as needed based on the insights you gather to optimize your reach and engagement within the American market.
