How to gain early followers on Instagram?
Hi everyone,
First of all, I’d like to say hello to the community, as it’s my first post here.
I recently started an Instagram account for my business. The handle is @thegiftbot.
So far I’ve got 11 followers, some of whom are my personal friends and others are my affiliate partners. I’ve just started the business itself, so I don’t exactly have any channels apart from insta and website, both of which have low traffic at this stage.
I’ve been posting consistently for a while and I get very few followers. I got ONE follower since starting that is not a personal friend or affiliate partner.
I see people on here complaining they get only 5 followers a day or so, when I get absolutely zero. So what am I missing?
I suppose one issue is that I have 11 followers so not much of a social proof. Reach is minimal too. When I started I was getting like 6 reach, 4 from followers. Now I optimised hashtags, and optimised what type of content I am posting, which took the reach up to 20-30 ish accounts, but still very low engagement. Got 3 likes yesterday from a “Gift Tip” type of post. Posted again today and it got 1 like that is not my personal/ friend account. So seems like these do something? But still no followers, shares or anything else.
I am still experimenting with formats. The gift tips posts seem to get bit more engagement than reels. Haven’t properly tried carousel guides yet, but could maybe work as an evolution from the single gift tips. So I’ll continue experimenting.
Do you have any advice for building the very initial following when starting out from scratch? I am not opposed to paying to boost posts etc. If that’s the way to do this, but will that do anything? Was hoping to get some followers organically and then boost that post to scale it up, but don’t currently have such post yet.
Are there any tips to get that initial following? Heard of the follow/ unfollow strategy, but that’s not exactly the most honest way and pretty sure it’s frowned upon by Instagram.
Thanks for any advice!
