    Hello

I have an e-commerce site on Shopify targeting US customers. It’s been around a year and a half and my domain is xxx.com. I want to change my target market from the US to Germany, but I don’t know what’s the best way to do that while keeping my SEO advantage.

Currently, I have 11-12K visitors a month—95% organic/60% US customers. Unfortunately, my conversion rate is not so good yet and I have too much cost running the business in the states(due to fulfillment center cost), so I decided to re-start the business in Germany. (I’ll move to Germany.)

My question is how to transform it into German focused site but still not losing the organic traffic? I want to keep the English site and add a German site. Here’s one option I am thinking in mind but I am not sure if it’s good or not?

I am thinking to use a translate app(GTranslate) but still two options. 1) get a sub-domain (de.example.com) for $7.99 a month. 2) Language Hosting (example.fr) for $12.99 a month. Is it much better to get the language hosting option?

Alternatively, I could get a separate subdomain or domain for a new German site? But it seems more work and lose SEO benefits and possibly cost more? I need to pay for a separate Shopify subscription/theme/apps.

One other question is I’ll have a 2-3 month gap to open the business in Germany after closing in the US. If I pause my store on Shopify, it’ll affect the SEO stuff?

Sorry, I am still learning, so, please help me. Thank you so much for your help.

Organic traffic is based on location. If your organic traffic is primarily US based, then why do you think you’ll retain that audience when moving to another country?

I’m interested to find out more on this, as I’m curious as to how Google will see links built to your website in English (i’m guessing?), now point to a website that’s German.
