  • How should I determine my hourly rate as a social listening analyst?

Posted by seohelper on May 17, 2021 at 12:53 am

Hello everyone, first, I’m sorry if it’s not the right place to ask. I need some suggestions.

I’m a fresh graduate, in the last 6 months I’ve been doing social listening report for some local brands. Few days ago I got an offering from US-based company to do their social listening for Indonesian market, I reside in Indonesia. They asked my hourly rate and I was confused how to charge the company.

I used several freelancer rate calculator but the result shown a huge gap from one another, the range shown was USD 5-50.

My questions are, (1) how should I determine my hourly rate? Should I use Indonesian or US standard? Cause it’ll have huge difference. (2) In US standard, with less than a year experience, how much social listening analyst get paid per hour? (3) Do the company usually provide their freelancer with social listening tools? Or we have to subscribe it ourself?

Thank you so much and good luck for the new week tomorrow!

Can you give a brief synopsis of what a listener does?

    Thank you

If I were you, I’d look at the minimum wage of the state (in the US) the employer is based in and compare it to what you’re currently being paid right now in Indonesia and look at the difference and charge a small percentage of that difference, in addition to your current market rate in Indonesia.

Let’s say the minimum wage of someone in the state of California is $13 – let’s say $12 for the sake of simplicity. I’ll assume you’re getting paid about $6 right now from the local market. Now the difference is approximately $6. You can easily charge at least 25% of the difference, meaning $1.5. So what you finally charge your client would be about $7.5. Now, you can choose to charge more than this depending on how confident you are of your abilities, but I probably wouldn’t go above $8-9 if I were you, given that this is your first international client and you’re still building your repertoire of clients.

    Hope this helps.
