  • How long does it take for you to create content?

I'm working as digital marketer / smm (just 8 months in) and sometimes i feel like i spend too much time on this task.

Given that the company I'm working for is a B2B and posts are somewhat technical everytime (which require extra time and checks), how long do u consider acceptable for an entire LinkedIn carousel? (idea, copy and creation)

I think this is going to be a “how long is a piece of string?” kind of question, where the answer can wildly vary depending on circumstances. But with experience and ways of working, you can come up with efficiencies for your own. Like, can you get the roadmap for what’s coming up, so you can prepare relevant content in good time? Can you dedicate time creating multiple post ideas in one go, so you can just draw them down when needed? Do the platforms you use have any time-saving features?

I used to do social media for a B2B company and creating a carousel from scratch to planning it out would at first take me a while. But then I found I could crank out about 2 weeks worth of content in a few hours.

Creating content can take different amounts of time depending on how complicated it is. It is always about quality over quantity. Generally, allocating 4-6 hours for ideas, research, writing copy, sourcing visuals, and finalizing design is reasonable. However, prioritize quality over speed, and make sure the content reflects the company’s message and resonates with the target audience. Adjust timeframes based on individual experience and company expectations making sure your efforts are effective and efficient.

The truth is things will have a baseline amount of time but in reality it’ll take as much time as you want.

Example: I can make a IG reel in 5-10 mins after making similar ones and having a process. But if I wanted to I could spend way more time in the same reel adding effects and updating lighting and colors. What you need to think about is the marginal improvement your time invested with return.

If that extra 2 hours in lighting and coloring improvements you do will take it from a 3 start to a 5 start, that’s probably worth it. If its barely half a star then, thank you, next.
