  • How Long Before Traffic Increases?

Posted by Different-Goose-8367 on February 3, 2023 at 12:48 pm

I have an e-commerce store which has been online since 2008. We’ve neglected SEO overtime and concentrated our efforts in paid traffic. Due to the increasing cost of paid traffic we want to ramp up our organic traffic again.

We have started to post 1-2 articles per week on our site related to the products we sell, each article is ~500 words. We don’t actively build links but we are seeing an increase in links from low quality sites.

How long should we continue this strategy without tangible results before trying something new? And what would you do different?

    Thanks in advance.

There is no set schedule to ‘recover’ from ignoring non-paid SEO. It depends on your industry, your products, your prices, if the content in the new articles is well-written, if the content is relevant to your potential customers’ interests, etc.

Investigate ways to build links from higher quality sites. Maybe hire a consultant to improve that very situation.

Continue writing and posting content. Look for trends in your industry and actions from key competitors. You should really never do a paid-only effort.

The roosters have come home to roost.

It isn’t just slapping a bunch of posts and expecting Google to be like ooh this is a great site. You need to do a full SEO audit of your site. How’s the architecture? How is page performance? On-page elements? A thorough audit will let you know how healthy your site is so that you can focus on getting it right – then you’ll start to see some traffic.

Typically I say 3-6 months after any significant changes (although in my experience it doesn’t take that long at all).

It’s difficult to provide an exact timeline for when you should expect to see tangible results from your SEO efforts, as there are many factors that can influence the speed and effectiveness of your strategy. However, I can offer some general guidelines and suggestions for improving your approach:

    1. Be patient: SEO is a long-term game, and it can take several months or even years to see significant results. Keep in mind that the efforts you make now may not pay off immediately, but they can provide long-term benefits.

    2. Measure your progress: Make sure you have a way to track your traffic, rankings, and other key metrics so you can see if your efforts are paying off. You can use tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, or Ahrefs to monitor your progress.

    3. Evaluate your content: While posting 1-2 articles per week is a good start, you should make sure your content is high quality, informative, and relevant to your audience. Consider conducting keyword research to identify topics and phrases that are likely to drive traffic to your site.

    4. Build high-quality links: While you don’t want to actively pursue links from low-quality sites, you can try to build links from high-quality sites in your industry. Consider guest posting on relevant blogs, participating in forums or communities, or reaching out to influencers or bloggers to request a link.

    5. Consider technical SEO: In addition to content writing and link building, there are technical aspects of SEO that can affect your rankings. Consider optimizing your site structure, improving page load speed, and using schema markup to help search engines understand your content.

Overall, I would suggest continuing your current strategy for at least six months to a year, while making adjustments based on your progress and results. Additionally, I would recommend investing in a comprehensive SEO audit to identify any areas of your site that may be hindering your rankings, and to get a more personalized roadmap for improving your SEO strategy.
