    Hi!

How important is server location for search engine results? If I would have the server location in Germany (because of way better deals) but the website is in swedish targeted for the swedish market?

Is this only a question of loading times or is there more to it?

Most search engines take server location into account as part of their ranking algorithm. This means that it will be much more difficult to improve visibility on searches when you choose to use a server located outside of the country.

No matter if you are focusing on a small local audience or an entire country or region, the location of your web host will help when it comes to geo-targeting your desired audience

Location used to matter but not anymore, it’s just a case of finding good hosting, I hosted mine all over the world and found very little difference these days in loading times, ask hosting if they have the option to move servers, hostinger places like that allow you to move servers if your not happy

With a good CDN it doesn’t matter at all. Focus on that instead.

What matters most is how long it takes for your content to be delivered and rendered on the end users. If you are serving your content from Germany and the customer is in Scandinavia, it could take a bit longer than a site that has a server point closer to the customer.

Utilizing a CDN will resolve this issue because you can now have copies of your site on servers all over the world and the CDN will serve the site to the user from which ever server happens to be the quickest.

Well, I have CDN now and html page caching enabled and I get around less than 500ms response time around the world.

If you have a website covering the audience of a specific geo location , it might be best to have a server near that region and avoid Cdn after all. You might have to pay for a CDN, if Cloudflare then it’s free.

It is more important to have a fast loading page. Remove all the bloat get the page to load fast.

Have the server location closer to your target audience, if you target the world, use cdn.

The closest server location is necessary to improve the site loading speed. If your site has much static content, then CDN can do the job. However, if your site produces dynamic content, the site speed is a question mark as CDN can’t handle dynamic assets. If you have a facility closest to your location, then give it a preference rather than the one located too long way.
