  • How important are historical data for social analytics to you?

    Hello,

I was wondering if I can get some insight into the different use cases of social analytics. Most of the service providers I’ve seen don’t provide much of that and they start tracking things from the time you sign on.

How important is historical data? And how far back is long enough? 7 days? 15? 3 months?

So you want social metrics from before your account was active?

Some of my clients want 3 month benchmarks or 6 month benchmarks or month over month/ year over year comparison

Social analytics are extremely important! You need to continuously track your audience insights to get an idea of their demographics and interests. The algorithms are ever-changing, so the analytics let you know what kind of content is working and what’s not.

While comparing, I think 6 months back is the max you should go, as the content preference and trends keep on changing in short durations. They help you find out the times when your audience (followers) are the most active, their age group, gender, location, etc. which can help a lot in the content curation process.
