Remember that this is risky, as a performance managers or other marketing specialists we are often responsible for the budgets of the client so having someone with little experience is just a risk that someone would be willing to take. It would also mean an additional work on their part as they would have double-check you and provide feedback. Also a lot of mundane, easy tasks are now getting automated, so be sure to focus on studying a strategy more than technicalities as in the future most of the set-up will be fully automated.
I would personally suggest joining any company for a junior position and then going from there. If that’s not possible continue searching the way you are doing now or try yourself as a cheap freelancer and build from that.

I tried this method several times. People will be afraid if u say u want to work for free. They know u want to extract information and then go do your own thing and become successful. Business owner hate the thought of someone becoming successful because of them. (unless courses gurus)
dont show your intention to learn. If u say u want to learn, ur giving a signal that ur intelligent. u add the word “work for free”, u will be seen as intelligent times 100 times “possible competitor”
what u really need to do is tell that u accept $5/day. This gives a signal that ur not so bright and they will feel a bit better because deep down, they want to hire the lowest possible, but it doesn’t feel right, but “hey this person is asking, so why not”

You have 3 realistic options:
1. Get an internship / entry level job
2. Start your own personal project for experience
3. Volunteer on websites like catchafire.org -
Hook yourself up with someone running Google Ads Grants for non-profits and offer to work for free in return for coaching and mentoring. In the meantime, do all the Google Skillshop qualifications, read through Google Help pages, get up to speed with current best practice by following paid search blogs and watching Youtube videos. Also, set up a Google Ads test account, dig in and create some test campaigns to get used to the UI and all the bells and whistles therein https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/first-call/test-accounts
