Heads up on GA4 Emails Asking to “Validate Your Property”

Posted by JF_Bacchini on August 4, 2023 at 11:53 am

Get ready for panicked calls from clients about GA4. I got an email yesterday – for a web property that has been on GA4 for ages and is successfully collecting data. The CTA is “Validate Your Property.” I have all the auto stuff turned off for this and all my sites, so you’re not immune even if you took that important step!

**Here is what the email says:**

Subject line: Review your updated GA4 property

It’s time to review your updated GA4 property.

To preserve your website measurement and advertising strategies, additional settings have now been updated in the Google Analytics 4 property you created.

These changes have been made to mirror your Universal Analytics setup as closely as possible. You can find updates in the change history in Google Analytics.

If you were using Universal Analytics conversions and/or audiences for bidding in Google Ads, GA4 equivalents have been applied in your Ads account.

Now that Universal Analytics has started to sunset, it is critical to ensure that the Google Analytics 4 settings that were configured for you meet your needs. Verify your Google Analytics 4 property setup today.

    VALIDATE YOUR PROPERTY

Check the property change history to see what changes google automatically made.
Getting tired of these mass emails from google trying to help people that haven’t upgraded even after 2.5 years of warning…

I received this as well. Didn’t appear anything had changed.

I’ve migrated over 500 UA properties to GA4, meaning I have access to well over 1,000 total properties in my account. Luckily I found a Google Sheets add-on to turn off the automatic migration setting in bulk.

I received two of these emails yesterday about the same property. The property in question is all set up, and the site in question isn’t even live. Didn’t see anything unique about this property at all. I’m bracing myself for a flood of more of this bullshit.

Fun side complaint: to get rid of the red “Setup for this property is incomplete” notification at the top of the page for any GA4 property, you have to go to the setup page and individually “Mark as complete” 7 different steps, which include a lot of BS most people won’t need or do. I’m supposed to do this 500+ times? Fuck off.
