  • Got asked to be a social media manager and freaking out

I really need advice because I feel sick to my stomach and it hasn’t even started.

A friend of mine and former colleague asked if I would be interested in helping with social media for an event he’s leading

I feel like the pressure is coming from the fact that this would be my first real go at this. Also, he’s someone I know so if it’s a flop I would think I’m not good enough and all that fun stuff

    Does anyone have advice?

Yes don’t do it if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Why are you freaking out though? He knows you’re a beginner right? Or have you been advertising yourself as someone with “this, this, and this” experience? He shouldn’t be expecting too many big things if he knows you’re new, it depends on why he asked you and what he specifically needs help with.

The first project is always scary cause it’s like “Okay, what if I’m actually NOT as good as I think I am?”, I get it. Just be confident, organized, efficient, and PREPARED with a Content Calendar, Social Media Strategy, etc. 🙂

This will be a step towards more experience, practice, and greater projects. It doesn’t have to be perfect, its just got to be the best you can produce at the moment. 🙂 Good luck!!

    Unjustified anxiety, my friend.

If he hired you he should give you a job description. If so fulfill the job description. If not write one together. Base it on what *outcomes* he want to see.

It’s all in your head. If you know the nature of the business your friend is running, then there won’t be any problem. Just read the job description and tell your friend what you can and can’t do.

I had such bad imposter syndrome when I started as a SMM with no experience. don’t think too hard about it, because SM is not make or break for a company. stay consistent with posting and see what their audience prefers. you got this!!!
