    Google Shopping Problem

Posted by ferero18 on September 23, 2022 at 12:40 pm

I have been having problems of getting enough impressions on my ad groups.

and I’ve just noticed a very strange thing in my ad groups. Have a look at this:

An ad group with 3 product groups (3 different colors) with a 76% Impression Share

There are 2 main keywords for that ad group – they both have an estimated 1300 searches per month according to the Keyword Planner.

I’ve just seen my keyword list for the past 7 days for that ad group – each of these keywords has 10-20 impressions for a WHOLE WEEK. That’s 10-20 times less than this keyword can generate per week according to my IS

    So here’s my confusion:

If I own 76% IS – how am I getting 20 impressions PER WEEK, while I should be getting at least 200 impressions per each of those 2 keywords per week?

The situation occurs in almost every ad group – and I’ve been checking only those with at least 70% IS.

Did anybody have had a situation like this – or possibly know the solution?

Impression share is only based on ad auctions which you could potentially qualify for, so for example:

if there were 1000 searches per week, but half of those were outside of your targeted areas, they wouldn’t be included in your potential available impressions.

Likewise, if your ad quality was too low to be competitive in half of the auctions, they would also not be included in the calculation.

Because of this, the keyword planner search volume data can easily be far removed from what you see in-platform. If I was you, I’d be looking at improving the ad/copy/landing page/feed quality (whichever is most relevant) or upping bids to increase the overall number of auctions that you qualify for.

TLDR; Impression share is simply the percentage of auctions that you technically could have been involved in that you actually won.
