*Soon, you’ll see AI-powered features in Search that distill complex information and multiple perspectives into easy-to-digest formats, so you can quickly understand the big picture and learn more from the web: whether that’s seeking out additional perspectives, like blogs from people who play both piano and guitar, or going deeper on a related topic, like steps to get started as a beginner. These new AI features will begin rolling out on Google Search soon.*

There are no citations in Google’s Bard screenshot. Ergo, it is taking content and giving nothing in return.

I have a feeling AI will just replace the featured snippets.

A simple readout of the answer as the top result.

They cant remove the rest of the results. If they do, it’ll remove the need for people to produce content which will rob the AI of future sources of info to draw from.

Will be interesting to see how this develops though. Hopefully it doesnt obliterate CTR for good content.

I also heard that Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced that the company will be dropping its conversational interface project, which aimed to create a virtual assistant that could draw information from web pages in response to user queries. The project, which was in development for several years, aimed to enhance the capabilities of Google Assistant and improve the overall user experience. However, after a comprehensive review, the company determined that the project was not aligned with its long-term strategic goals.

Instead, Google will focus its efforts on other AI-powered initiatives, such as enhancing the natural language processing capabilities of Google Assistant and expanding the range of devices it is available on. The company will also continue to invest in developing its search technology to provide users with the most relevant and accurate information.

The decision to drop the conversational interface project highlights the importance of constantly evaluating and adjusting technology development plans to ensure they are in line with a company’s overall goals and priorities. It also underscores the need for companies to be nimble and make tough decisions to stay ahead in an ever-evolving tech landscape.
