Google Analytics audience for Google Ads remarketing

Posted by seohelper on May 6, 2021 at 2:01 pm

    Hello r/PPC!

I hoped someone could give me some insight.

I have used google analytics to create an audience for any page visit containing for example: /pages/products-and-services/t-shirts/ in the last 90 days. I want to use this audience to target with display campaigns of t shirts.

My data in analytics says people have visited a page containing this around 15,000 times in the last 90 days.

However, in Google Ads it says the audience is too small to target the display network.

Is this because I’ve just set up the audience? I wasn’t sure whether it would go off historic data or only data collected from when the audience was made and I’d have to wait for it to collect data from now or not.

    Thanks for any help!

First look at the last 30 days not 90 days to evaluate the audience size on GA. Second, it’s about the number of users/visitors not the number of sessions. One user can make multiple visits. Third, it’s unlikely Google will be able to retarget the majority of the the users simply because a lot of them opt out of tracking.
So out of 1000 users, Google will probably retarget successfully 10% of them. Use instead similar audiences.

Remarketing lists targeting the Google Display Network must have a minimum of 100 active visitors or users within the last 30 days for your ads to show; lists targeting Google search must have a minimum of 1,000 active visitors or users.

I’d suggest creating multiple audiences for the number of days, eg. 3, 7, 14, 30, 60, 90 and have the ability to target specific audiences with a different promo message. For example somebody in past 7 days with a % off, a 30 day buy one get one free, you get the idea. Another one for buyers which can exclude those from the campaign.
