Google ads – Targeting Hong Kong with english ads

Posted by seohelper on June 19, 2020 at 5:24 pm

    Hey everyone,

I’m running a small campaign in the US and Canada for a FitBit app. Based on some research I found that Hong Kong has many devices so I thought I might try and advertise there.

I understand English is a main language (much more than in European countries), but I’m not sure, if people in Hong Kong would google stuff in English or Chinese.

Perhaps this is a question for r/hongkong but I imagine someone here has tried that already or knows if there are other issues with Google given the situation with China.

Incidentally, if I may add one more question, I’m probably gonna expand my campaign to UK and Ireland, and I’m not sure if I should create another campaign or if I can use one for all “english speaking countries”. Same goes for HK. Assuming a big % will speak english, should I make it a standalone campaign or add it to the mix?

    Thanks!

You gotta test both. No one here knows for sure as it’s dependent on your product and demographic. For example, if you are advertising Fitbit then English might be fine but advertising in Chinese can also be great. But you’ll need to test both to see what works better.

If you create campaigns per country you could monitor them easier. That’s my opinion.
