Google Ads – Should I set up multiple primary conversion goals, if I want to track incremental actions after sign-up?
Hi all,
I have been working on my own product (a web app) for some time and got into the spot where I want to test if there is any interest in my idea. The budget I have is not too large, I plan to spend maybe a couple of hundreds a month for a few months to get some feedback and decide if it's worth investing any more time in it.
Like anyone, I would like to maximize this and not poor the money down the "you have not correctly configured your campaign" drain. Also, since I'm in this testing phase, I can not afford to pay a professional to do it for me, so I have to educate myself.
What I am trying to achieve is to get users to signup and use the app. Using the app means that the user takes 3 sequential actions after they signed up.
Would you say that, in Google Ads terms, this would best translate to:
- Primary goal: User sign-up (value 1)
- Secondary goal 1: User takes action 1 (value 10)
- Secondary goal 2: User takes action 2 (value 50)
- Secondary goal 3: User takes action 3 (value 100)
There is no inherent value at this time for any of this actions, since it's more about validating the idea than making it financially feasible, so the above are just some fictive points to value these actions.
Since the signup is one-time, whilst actions 1, 2, 3 can happen multiple times, sometimes the sequence might not even be complete, would it be wise to set these actions as primary goals too?
If a user acquired through this campaign, clicks on an ad at a later time (let's say 3 months later) and just logs in into their already existing account and takes actions 1, 2, 3, is this going to affect the campaign?
How about if I acquire the user through a different channel, and so the sign-up is not a Google Ads conversion, but then later, the user clicks an ad and takes the actions. Is this expected to affect the campaign?
Should I just stay away from having multiple primary goals?
Thanks!
