Google Ads low volume & competition keyword CPC query
For internal political reasons, I’m running a campaign targeting some very specific & niche keywords that I would otherwise avoid.
These keywords have low volume (roughly the available impressions across all 22 keywords is 300 a day from Phrase match) and from what I can see, we’re the only ones bidding on them. Even though our budget is low (£30) we’re only seeing about a 30% impression share and an avg. CPC of £8.
Some days we’re paying £12 a click on keywords which I have tested countless times (in private browsers and on fresh systems with no cookies/caching) and our account has been the only one to ever show up in the ad spaces.
So, would be interesting to hear if anyone had any insights as to why Google feels it can charge such a high CPC, especially considering that on this same account, we have hundreds of keywords we bid on that have very strong competition from people with big budgets and are paying about £1 cpc for them.
I know other factors come in to play when to comes to cpc other than competition, it’s just i find it crazy Google can effectively say we’re in an auction and then charge us £12 for a keyword that no one else is bidding on.
