    Google Ads Discovery Campaign

Posted by YourAveragePPCSpec on May 24, 2023 at 7:19 am

Hi everyone, I need your help. I’m not sure if this has been asked before, but I’ve been trying to figure out how to build a Discovery campaign for my client with a bid strategy focused on targeting impressions or clicks. The goal is to increase brand visibility and get more clicks.

During the campaign setup process, I noticed that the available bid strategy options provided by Google Ads seem to be primarily focused on conversions, such as tROAS or tCPA. I couldn’t find a specific bid strategy for targeting impressions or clicks.

I would appreciate some clarity on whether the default bid strategy for Discovery campaigns is based on conversions, or if the available bid strategies depend on the account’s activity and performance.

    Cheers!

Google recently revamped Discovery so that you can only target audience signals (not use direct audience targeting) and only use conversion-optimized bidding options.

It’s not great as many advertisers/agencies would like to use Discovery specifically for remarketing, reaching a specific group of users, or for brand awareness.

I feel like Discovery is kind of useless now if you’re already running P-Max as all of this functionality is already built-in. All Discovery gives you is a way to assign a specific budget for this inventory.
