Google Ads- can you really only manage locations at the campaign level?

Posted by seohelper on September 13, 2020 at 7:09 pm

I’m a musician. Say I have a small tour booked with 3 shows in NYC, LA, and Austin. And I want to run a video ad to those cities to promote it.

I want basically the same ad group to run to each city but with something like ‘coming to NYC, Sep 15th’ shown in NYC, and ‘coming to LA, Sep 18th’ shown in LA.

Facebook ads have the capability to show different ad groups to different locations, but it seems like on Google ads, I’d have to create a whole other campaign for each city. This is very inconvenient, because all the data Google has built up on who would like the video in those locations has to start from scratch in each new campaign. It would be fine if you could create a similar audience for video views, but a Google rep told me they don’t make similar audiences for video viewers.

Am I missing something? Is there any way to do this?

Yes, and it’s super annoying having to create a dozen “_____ near me” campaigns. When ad sets would work better.

Yes, but sorry it’s really not a huge deal to copy paste the campaigns and change the location. Even if you could create them at ad group level you’ll be losing the data.

As long as you are using the same video, it can optimize across campaigns.

By the way I’m looking to break into music marketing, would love to learn and exchange advice you are as well.
