Google Ads Bot Traffic? > Google Analytics.

Hi all, I need you opinion.

I’m relatively new when it comes to Google Adds. ( I did a few campaigns before)

We are running a smart campaign. When looking at the paid search visitors in analytics, the average. Engagement time is 2 SECONDS! Surely this has to be bot traffic or google analytics is not precise enough1?

I get that if the add is not set up properly or the targeting is irrelevant to the audience, they historically fall of from the page 10-15seconds that’s fine misconfigurations happen, but in 2 seconds?

Here are the things we are sure off:

\-The ads are relevant to the end url

\-The targeting is relevant to the audience (according to analytics as well)

\-Age, location, interests seem to be accurate.

\-Ads is charging for these clicks

\-When we look at the our security analytics on the website (WAF, not google) most of the traffic is tagged as bot traffic, but the locations where they coming from seems to be in line with the ad settings.

I know that typically sends a surge of bot traffic at very start of the campaign, but we are now a week and a half in.

Any tips on how to mitigate this?

    Thank you!

Do you have the display network turned on? Display ads typically get tons of bots.

Smart campaigns are terrible. Rebuild using search only and you should see an immediate improvement in site engagement.
