  • GMB not showing for local searches

My business has had a GMB listing for about 2 years, has 20 reviews and is filled out with the correct service area, services, photos, description, contact info, etc.

Address is off as I operate online.

My business website in the top 3 on organic search for two “service in X” searches, with the rest being a little lower down but still ranking.

But my business does not show in the GMB listings above organic search for these terms.

When you Google my business, my listing shows. So it’s not suspended.

Worse still, some of the business who do have 0 reviews, pictures, etc. On review of their listings, they have all the same info filled in as me, with no address.

My business works with clients all over but I take on local work, hence wanting to rank for these terms, so I wondered if it was the location of my reviews (I.e. a mix of Australia, USA, UK). That’s the only thing I can think of.

A couple of months ago Google suspended my GMB listing. When I challenged it, they immediately put it back, so I thought maybe it was a glitch. I didn’t change anything to get it back and I wasn’t doing anything wrong.

I have reported this issue with my business not showing to Google. They just sent me a BS reply about how they can’t help me rank ? but I think there’s genuinely something wrong here.

    I can’t figure it out!

Am I missing something super obvious?

Your home address cannot be displayed on your Google My Business listing. And Google does not want or allow residential addresses/home addresses to appear on Google Maps. (Why? Google Maps’ purpose is not to help businesses rank, but to help searchers find directions to businesses/storefronts that they need to drive to.) In fact, you can suggest an edit and report businesses that have residential addresses on Google Maps so that those businesses with residential addresses are removed from Google Maps.

    >From Google: If you don’t serve customers at your business address, leave the address field blank and only enter your service area. Important: If you do not serve customers at your business address, do not enter an address under the “Info” tab in Google My Business. The “business location” field should stay blank.

You have to set it up as a Service Area Business instead, which it sounds like you may have done since it is verified and you removed your address already.

Ya service area listings tanking in a lot of niches. Rent an office for a month or 6 and takes a bunch of photos and video verify.

Have you build any citations for the business? Also, not having an address is what can cause issues to rank. You should at least highlight and mention the city you are based and get a website too if you don’t have.
