FB pixel showing sales when there are none.
Posted by seohelper on May 7, 2021 at 9:45 amI have zero sales. Facebook is showing I have 3.
The pixel is installed only on the “thank-you” page.
Any ideas what might’ve gone wrong? Could it be the new FB “predictive” algorithm that thinks I should’ve had sales when there are none?
Thanks!

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 10:20 amFacebook conversion tracking seems to give faulty data all the time. I’m experiencing a similar problem. No agency has come up with a reliable answer to this and no data is packing up the claim that it would still be a view-through conversion.
My attitude on FB marketing is getting increasingly critical. I think FB is practicing too loose attribution for their benefit.

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 10:24 amWithout more information, I’d agree with TTFV that the most likely answer is View-Through conversions. I know you are skeptical of this answer, but you can definitively validate or reject this hypothesis by segmenting by conversion window in the reporting tool and seeing which window they are attributing the conversions to.
Also, standard conversion window for clicks is 7 days, so even if you’re not seeing conversions via GA which is showing last-click attribution, you’ll still get credit for conversions if the customer makes a purchase within 7 days of clicking on one of your ads.

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 10:24 amHave you checked the events in FB analytics?
I have had a similar issue with a few clients, and we found two issues.
1. They were not running anything on FB for some time (so no events fired)
2. There was an issue between GTM and FB pixel. -

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 10:28 amare you running conversion ads optimized for conversions? then facebook uses modelled data,
if you run conversion ads optimized for value facebook wont model data and you get correct results
(however you need to set up your 8 events correctly with purchase taking 4 slots because you enabled value)with conversions you have 7day click/1day view, with value you only have 7day click
however the ios update changes how view attribution works in general and we now advice to not use view attribution anymore, cant find the apple article right now but mostly all view data is incorrect, so dont use it
facebook recommends to run value and to stop use conversions, because of this

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 10:37 amAs from replies, I understand you use different page for FB conversions. Maybe you can use GTM trigger to see how many times it fires, so it will be your exect conversion number from FB

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 10:50 amIf the “thank-you page” is indexed, then it could be bot traffic.

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 12:57 pmWe automatically take our FB sales data and cut it by 25% because FB is way too greedy in taking credit. Is that thank you page pixel the same thank you page page that gets organic traffic?

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 4:48 pmI have had the exact same issue as you that began about 2 months ago. I contacted fb support and until
now the case is still “ongoing” lol.Initially, I thought it was some bot attack on my store, but the more I read the more it seemed to be common. I was also optimized for purchases so last week I changed things and optimized for add to cart followed by checkouts. They both garnered results but no purchases.
I don’t think fb even knows what’s going on. At this point, they have so many issues I bet they can’t keep track of them!

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 7:06 pmTest 1-day click or 7-day click attribution windows. FB most likely counting view-through conversions and with recent IOS changes, we can’t filter between view and click to verify.

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 7:23 pmHello
I’ll be happy to help, here’s what you can do:
– If it’s a Shopify website, use the Facebook plugin instead of adding the pixel code directly to the liquid.
– If it’s WordPress, you can go either way but would suggest the Facebook plugin again, in case you aren’t good with code.
-If you’ve used direct code, check which page has your purchase event code, make sure it’s on the thank you page and make sure said page is not accessible unless a purchase has been made. (this would only be a problem if the website is completely custom HTML, and the web dev guy forgot).
– If you haven’t added in the purchase event code and instead use the event set up tool or google tag manager, revisit the tool and change what page/button has been set up to trigger purchases. Had a friend whose “pay now” button was tagged as a purchase event, which ended up giving him fake results on the number of purchases.P.s
– If the number of purchases tracked is exactly double of the purchases recorded in the back end, then you have a double-counting error and need to find the second event code and delete it.
– iOs 14 update will result in lower purchases tracked than purchases recorded, so you can safely rule out the update. -

GuestMay 7, 2021 at 10:42 pmWe had issues with our pixel tracking double conversions and we found out that our drawer cart was causing issues so we went to a single cart page.
