Duplicate Google Ads campaigns but different performance. Why so?

So our team has duplicated a campaign.

    Context:
The duplicate one was supposed to target specific locations. Basically we wanted to target all locations but also wanted more traffic from some specific regions.
Initially, we had set the locations in the original campaign.

    Timeline:
Last month: we set location targets in the original campaign. Original campaign's impressions dropped to 600 per day from 1.7k. The duplicate wasn't made at that time.

    Last week:
Monday: created the duplicate campaign. Started with around 2k impressions per day. Didn't set the location targets in the duplicate one.

Thursday: removed locations from the original campaign.

Friday: impressions on the duplicate dropped to 20. Impressions on the original went to around 1.5k.

Today: duplicate has 10 impressions. Original has 1.5k.

So like the impressions dropped because of us removing the location targets? So like it's expected to set locations in one of the two campaigns?

Sorry if the question is dumb but I wanted to know if someone faced anything similar. I don't want to assume correlation for causation, since this is the first time it's happening.
