I’m wanting to start a men’s fitness and self improvement blog. I’m kind of worried, though, that including the self improvement posts about things like mindset and fashion will hurt my search results. Is that how it works? Would I get better seo and traffic if I make the blog only related to men’s fitness? Will the lifestyle articles cause my fitness articles to rank lower?

The problem with doing that is you might not ever build relevance by spreading out the topics like that. I would suggest sticking to one niche (especially if you don’t know what you’re doing). I’ve worked with a huge lifestyle site and they tried to end up ranking for health keywords but it ended up tanking their traffic.

There are a couple of options for you.

1, Publish a bunch (20-30) of articles on variety of men’s fitness topics. See which start to rank, and then go deeper on those topics until you have covered them in depth. Then move onto the next topic and go deep.

2, Just pick a sub topic within men’s fitness and go deep.
