Any thoughts or recommendations on what is best to use?

    Yes, it would work great.

Geotargeting and using location-based keywords (“gyms in riverside”, “gyms near me”) will help you out. Keywords will obviously work if you do Google Search ads, but location targeting is critical.

Yes, very effective for local businesses like gyms.

Use a tool like SEMrush’s Keyword Magic Tool or even Google’s Keyword Planner to find search terms you want to bid on first.

Once you know what the search terms are, make sure to write effective ad copy (tons of blogs on this). Use ad extensions also!

Like the other commenter said, targeting is crucial.

If it’s not too much for you, set up conversion tracking also so you can make sure the ads are working!

It does. I ran ppc for a local gym a few years ago. Check out the local competition to see what asvertising they are running and look at your catchment area for geo targeting. Your client should be running some OOH to create awareness so make sure the brand ppc is covered. Look at your target customers in the client’s business strategy and use demographic and audience targeting to focus on them.

You could also give local campaigns a try

You can also work with an agency that has geoconquesting capabilities to target people who go to other gyms and fitness facilities, health food stores, etc.

This is done by collecting and targeting mobile device IDs and not just native radius targeting. Be careful to work with an agency that knows the difference.

But, bottom line is yes, digital marketing can work extremely well for a local business like a gym.

Yeah, as everyone here has said location based PPC would work great for this.

Bear in mind people using search for location based keywords are typically at the pointy end of the acquisition journey, meaning they have high intent.

Make sure you get the most out of your campaign by capitalising on this. Send them to a very specific landing page where it’s easy for them to get the info they need to make a decision there and then, and convert to a lead. Then make sure you follow up quickly.
