  • Does it make a difference in which language I publish my blog first?

    Posted by seohelper on August 23, 2021 at 5:55 pm

    I’m about to launch a new website (currently still trying to come up with a content strategy that makes sense for SEO) and I cannot hire anyone to write content for my website at this point, i.e. I am the only writer with limited time. However, I am planning to translate my content into around 10 languages in the future.

    Ranking for English keywords is obviously a lot harder than for, say, German keywords. But there’s a lot more potential too. Should I first write and publish my content in English to start the “Google ranking timer” (I read it takes 6-12 months to rank) or should I first write and publish my blog posts in German, which would give me a significantly higher chance of ranking fast?

    I appreciate your answers

    You say that:

    * You don’t have a content strategy
    * You’re the only writer

    Do you write in all 10 of these languages you’re thinking at targeting? Do you understand the differences in syntax of keywords?

    Have you set up your site for multi-lingual SEO? Are you ready for language tags?

    Start in the language you’re most fluent in. Then you can run translations from there.

    The search engines rank things different based on GEO location. Start with the language your content will be in primarily. If you have a blog that has some posts in German and some posts in Chinese, and some posts in you name it, Google is going to think you are spamming. However, if you publish in English and have a plugin that translates the site based on preference, that not only saves you time, it looks better in Googles eyes.
