  • Does Google treat a webshop and a blog differently?

Hi all! My website started out as a blog with only blogposts. In January I’ve added a WooCommerce based webshop.

Ever since then my rankings dropped, hard. My organic search volume halved and my average position went down 13 places…

This all happened after I added the webshop.

So I was wondering, does Google treat websites differently for relevance? If my website is a blog with information does Google consider it more relevant then a webshop with the same information?

I also ran adsense on my blog, it started to become a nice amount now that amount also halved (besides Google always turning the ads off because they think there’s illegal traffic..)

So what do you think is happening? Any tips on getting back up into the ranking would be helpful!

So what you’ve done is added a major structural change to your site. How many products did you add when you add woocommerce?

Most likely what you are experiencing is a temporary dip as Google recrawls and reassesses your entire website because of the major change undertaken.

You should recover, but depending on how many new pages you added, you likely won’t fully recover to where you were. However you will also find that once the recrawl is done your ecommerce pages might start ranking, so the net effect should be slightly lower rankings for the pages/phrases you monitor, and slightly fewer visitors, but more and different rankings.
