  • Does anyone else spend $20k~ a month in SEO? What do you get for it?

Basically title. I’m curious what others are getting for $20k, and how to find the best agency for that budget. Anyone have any case studies or personal stories they can share about how SEO improved their traffic, conversions, etc.. for around my budget?

First off, RIP your DMs lol.

Now as for your question, it really depends on what kind of SEO work you need.

Is it operational (you need content, backlinks) or problem-solving (you have a problem you need someone to solve).

If it’s the 2nd, it varies very hard case by case, so can’t tell ya.

If it’s the first, you’d get a ton of content / backlinks for that budget in most niches. If I were you, I’d:

    – Look up agency by case study. Who has a consistent track record of delivering significant SEO results?

    – Hit em up and ask for their output. How much content / backlinks can they deliver for the budget? What other type of SEO work does this involve?

    – Check out the quality of work they’ve delivered. Is their content quality? Visual? Epic? Are their backlinks legit and NOT link farm? Are they from legit websites with good rankings / backlink profile?

And make the decision based on these 3 main factors.

As for results one can deliver for the budget, that varies wildly. Is it a medium competetion niche? The results will prob. Be very significant. Gambling or VPN? Nothing for quite a long time.

DM with site/niche, can give you muuuch better estimates based on that.

It’s not about how much or how much articles or backlinks – it’s about what is the end result to revenue and how can it be justified. Obv. if your products are $100K sales and you can get an extra 2 sales and your profit margins are 50% than spending $50K a year makes sense.

The majority of the clients I work on at my agency have SEO budgets of 20k+ a month. There are more doing it than you think… let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer for you.

It depends on your specific industry and needs. Through us, ballpark – it’d be around 16 high-quality guest posts on niche-specific sites with traffic of 25,000+, or around 66,000 words of high-quality content. Usually a combination of half of each of those. That’s assuming you don’t need a lot of on-site SEO work done. Feel free to PM me with the URL and any other specifics. My agency turns six years old on the 26th. We have a really solid portfolio, amazing referrals, and great online reviews.

Funny how many people immediately think you’re getting ripped off. Yes, that’s a large budget for a small business, but there are plenty of sites that $20k would be a bare minimum spend. It really depends on the size of your site and how much your agency is providing.

Especially if you have significant content needs and you’re in a technical niche, you could easily drop $10k in content monthly.

My agency doesn’t work with clients that size, our biggest clients spend in the $10k range, but I’d be happy to give you my opinion on if you’re getting your money’s worth.

At the end of the day, if your budget is producing ROI, then it’s worth doing. Your agency should be able to show you proof that they are bringing in enough traffic and conversions to justify your spend.

A national or international brand can easily be this much a month or more depending on who your competition is and what they’re SEO strategy looks like. You should be getting a lot of content and backlinks for that budget. But at th same time there are a ton of scam seo’s so without knowing more it’s hard to tell.

I’d probably use that budget to produce 3 1,500 word articles a month + graphics & content optimization, a social media promotion plan for the content, a monthly site audit & remediation of SEO issues. That would be about 15k and then I’d probably use 5k to outsource link building efforts to an agency specialized in link building. That would get you western educated writers whose first language is English that are capable of doing good research and writing compelling copy.

It depends on the industry, level of competition, etc.

As a point of reference, we’ve never had a client paying more than $10k/mo for digital marketing services (including SEO). Most of our retainers are in the $3-5k range.

I see your username is ‘Chicago’ – we’re in Grand Rapids, MI and have had several clients in the Chicago area over the years. I’d be happy to take a look at your situation to see if we can be of value to you if you’re open to it. Just send a PM.

Imagine spending $20k on direct ads that sell for you instead of guessing. Wouldn’t that be novel.

It all depends on the scope of the project. There are plenty of times $20,000and up is cheap when sales are in the millions range each month.

It’s really hard to quantify what you get because there is such a variety of work they could do. I’ve hired a few agencies for that spend and larger. I did the math and it came down to .55 cents per word for writing based projects , audits/meetings/reports/excel spreadsheets type work $145/hour. That of course isn’t how we were billed…just when I backed into what we had done. We hire agencies for a blend of technical and audits, outreach, and on page stuff. I would expect to pay more though for more specialty writing.
