  • Do H1,H2,H3 title tags still have a large impact on SEO?

Posted by np819 on February 3, 2023 at 5:12 pm

I help manage an e-commerce stores Shopify account. My boss wanted me to find a way to make H1,H2, and H3 title tags all the same font size on product pages so we could pick and choose what words get what designation without necessarily making H1 the title of the page.

In my research to find out the best way to do this I encountered a few people who claimed that title tags now have little SEO impact and the whole project would probably have minimal impact on SEO.

Before we pay someone to do this I wanted to get this communities opinion on if this is even worth doing. Thanks

The font size of the H tags doesn’t matter

    but the placement does

h1 should always come before the others

They should real like an outline

    H1 (main page topic)

    h2 subtopic 1

    h3 sub-sub topic 1a

    h3 sub-sub topic 1b

    h2 Subtopic 2

    h3 sub-sub topic 2a

    h3 sub-sub topic 2b

    h2 Subtopic 3

    h3 sub sub topic 3a

    h3 sub sub topic 3b

You can style them any way you want. How something looks doesn’t really matter in SEO, except when it comes to accessibility. Headings are just gonna denote the structure of the page.

Google does tend to overwrite the descriptions/titles in the SERP and will do it for pages that boilerplate too much.

This is important in terms of page and content analysis. If you want to analyze a competitor’s page, H tags will be one of the first items. This helps to build the correct page structure, which is very important for SEO especially now. You can try to analyze your pages or competitors’ pages through any popular tool like Surfer SEO or SE Ranking and you will see that it gets a lot of attention. So I would say it’s important.

When your content is structured and ordered properly with the correct markup, the better Google can understand it and thus give you a better opportunity for accurate display. Accurate display matched with related searches generally means better CTR and thus, higher rankings for such terms.

How MUCH it matters is really not the question, in totality how well are you structuring your page content as well as your site in general.

I don’t know if H2s have a big impact or not on Seo. But I do know that once I got really good at outlining and structuring my pists – I started ranking much better.

Could be a coincidence, could be with time I got better, who knows. But I think really, really good structured/outlined posts leads to a great H2/H3 structure. Which for me personally has led to better results.

    Hi
In my opinion, nothing can have a huge impact on SEO. Unless Google can’t index your website. For a small business, H3 is no need to be improved. H1 and H2 are still important and worth to optimise.

Just a necessary part in On-page SEO.

    Thank you

Sometimes things that “aren’t a big impact” can still really hurt you if you mess them up real bad. It’s like if you’re trying to sell a service to someone: speaking the same language isn’t going to win you the sale, but if you are completely unintelligible, you’re definitely *not* going to win the sale.

So header elements aren’t going to magically get you ranking for that term, but if you’re using the headers in a really poor manner to the point that you’re confusing Google on what your page is about, it could really hurt your chances to rank.

Of course they do. If you need help with it, make an account on Robinize and see the competitors heading structure as well as all the terms (keywords) you should use and which to use in headings.
