Do giveaways work to get more followers on IG and FB
I’m thinking of doing a major giveaway to gain more followers and boost sales. I’m not sure if it really works though.
I currently have less than 500 followers on IG and FB. Created them 2 months ago
Do you have any tips?

It doesn’t work that good from my experience with low followers like you have.
But you can check some free traffic methods I posted on r/freesitetraffic and maybe put your own spin on them.

IG recently put some new guidelines on their help page in regards to content they don’t like
One of which was “content that promotes a contest or giveaway”

I did this once years ago with a dog-related startup. Helped us get lots of followers, but didn’t boost sales. I think they can be good, they can help you build industry relationships, but your real challenge will be in retention.

I help my husband run his convenience store. Every Valentine’s Day, I go to Walmart or some such, buy a large stuffed animal and box of chocolates, go to the dollar store and buy some swag to put on the stuffed animal, and run a fb promo. You must “like” the page to be entered and the winner is determined by a random number generator. I also display the animal in the store with a sign around its neck with the same message. Each year I get hundreds of new followers for less than fifty bucks. I am not sure if this translates into sales but it creates quite a buzz and sets us apart from other, similar businesses who do not do anything like this. I do believe it pays off quite a bit in the long run.

It absolutely works to gain followers, but they may not be in your target audience.
Try this: entry method is to like the post and tag a friend. One tag per comment. Unlimited tags.
“Contest ends at a random time over the next 24 hours. Last comment wins!”

This works for boosting your follower count, however I’ve noticed these followers don’t engage as much or convert very well if you are offering any service or even information ??♀️
