Do alternative domains resolving to your main domain do any good whatsoever?
So say my ecommerce site is [autoparts.com](https://autoparts.com). Does it do any good whatsoever to obtain additional domains like autoparts.net , [fordautoparts.com](https://fordautoparts.com), [gmautoparts.com](https://gmautoparts.com), etc that all resolved to the [autoparts.com](https://autoparts.com) site?
I started my ecommerce site in 2005 and since have found domains I like that are similar and have bought them and set them up to resolve to my main. But now I’m thinking there may be no point in doing that since only the initial is indexed.
How about [autoparts.com](https://autoparts.com) being one site from start to finish, but [fordautoparts.com](https://forautoparts.com) being a totally different site until it merges with [autoparts.com](https://autoparts.com) at checkout? Is that a no-no, immoral, etc? I’ve once shopped for appliance parts and compared prices on two very differently designed sites only to find that they were the same site when I looked at the “Contact” page (same address).
