  • Digital marketing w no prior experience

I have no prior experience in marketing, I have never had a marketing job or internship

I have a start up/company which has gone through a terrible slow down due to CONVID-19

I am planning to get into the digital marketing space, first as a freelancer and then make it an agency

I have taken up a few courses and have learnt quite a lot already

I am ready to learn and hustle, and I understand I have a steep learning curve

Is it a good idea to start with no experience and learn along the way ?

No. That’s an awful idea. That would like a law student without any prior experience or extensive education offering to represent a criminal. You’re likely to do more harm than good to whatever companies decide to trust you.

Get a marketing job with another agency or company. Get some mentorship and legitimate guidance before you freelance, let alone start an agency.

I believe you could do something like social media management with little prior experience and scale that to an agency but doing complete digital marketing in the realm of SEO, etc. might be difficult to do effectively.

I must ask you, how did you have your own company and learned nothing about Marketing in this time? A business owner needs to have his hands in marketing somehow. Especially in a small or medium business.

About your question: Going full on Online Marketing will be too much for you in many ways.

I would suggest you choose one discipline in the marketing area. Choose something you have an affinity for already.

When you know how to program websites, technical SEO might be a good way. You like to write compelling text? Content Marketing could fit. You get the drill.

Learn how to do that properly and try getting clients, paying or not does not matter yet, you do it for the experience. Target small businesses or even one-man-companies.

You can start with no experience. Some places want it and some don’t. BUT, the best thing to do would be to create your own small website. Treat it as a client. This way if they say do you exp in this or that you can show them.
