Hi I was wondering if anyone ever had experience dealing with a blog where the last piece of content was updated a few years ago, the sites dropped pretty strong on SERP but still gets traffic
I’m wondering what’s the best way to deal with that, start rewriting some of the old strong content or working on adding new content to try and get it back on google’s radar?

I’d go with adding new content. You can refresh old posts that make sense to refresh, but I’d be careful. In the end SEOs are Google’s natural enemy. And many SEOs have used the old refresh old posts for a long time now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it could help trip an over optimization negative result. Basically, I think “would an SEO black hat do this” and then, try to only do it in extreme moderation.
