  • Creating original images and putting quotes on top of them. Copyright?

    Hey,

If I want to make original images and use already published quotes etc on my images and post them on a social network. is it allowed or what are the rules? I see a lot of sites all around the net about quotes whee they have created an original image and pasted a quote on top of it.

It really depends but it sounds like it would fall under fair use. If this is a source of revenue it’s a good question to bring up with your company’s legal team. From copyright dot gov:

    > Could I be sued for using somebody else’s work? How about quotes or samples?
    >
    > If you use a copyrighted work without authorization, the owner may be entitled to bring an infringement action against you. There are circumstances under the fair use doctrine where a quote or a sample may be used without permission. However, in cases of doubt, the Copyright Office recommends that permission be obtained.
