  • Client bought spammy-ish links a while back – how safe are they?

I’ve had people say both sides, so I’m interested in getting you guys’ opinions.

I’m working with someone who in the past bought links from a site called the HOTH, and now in their backlink portfolio has dozens of links from domains like:
    – relevantdomainkeyword.blogspot.com
    – keywordindustry.cabanova.com

They all have between 12-25 DA and link for direct anchor text for the keywords the page is ranking for. This to me is a big red flag, but the client says they experienced a marked increase in traffic since buying these links.

This isn’t something I’d be super comfortable keeping, and I would have big worries that this would lead to a bad situation at some point in the future.

However, with disavowing becoming less in fashion as Google more dynamically detects unnatural links and discounts them, is it a problem? Should these links be removed, or can they be kept without too much worry for future penalty? I’ve heard both sides and I’m interested in what you guys think.

There tools out there that determine “link toxicity”. Run a report and then manually disavow the toxic links in GSC.

Link neighborhoods is what I like to call it. If you have more bad links than good that’s how google sees you.

Blogspot, medium, Facebook, Google sites. They can sanitize a tremendous amount of spam links because of their domain authority.

I’ve tested this for years, you could type your keyword 5000 times in a new Shopify site with no other content and get to page 3 for just about anything.

The domain authority is their buffer. I don’t like it, but that’s what it is.

The hoth has been around forever, at least 10 years. I can’t believe their shit still works but it does i guess.

Find some compromise with client as CryptoDAnn said look for most toxic links for disallowing them, not all but only really toxic , Think, that only some part of then are really danger , not all

If GSC isn’t wagging its finger at them I would leave well enough alone. Moving forward build a link profile with high authority topically relevant and local leads that aren’t spammy to compensate for the low-quality leads and keep on truckin is my two cents.

HOTH’s copywriting service isn’t bad, but their back links are absolutely garbagio.
