Can consent mode affect new customer numbers?

Posted by DotNo957 on April 19, 2024 at 11:10 am

I am doing marketing for retailers some of which ship to Europe.
I recently started seeing higher CPA in my European Google Ads campaigns but looking at rapidly growing New customer numbers, decided to not cut the budgets for now – new customers are a priority right now.
I was pretty happy with my decision until I checked my sales report and saw that the new customer numbers are dropping on the sales side.
Our management recently discussed something about adding the consent mode but I don’t deal with legal or web side of things just the Google Ads. Could the consent mode inflate new customer numbers on the Google side?

Possibly, depending on how it was set up. If they set up Consent Mode V2 in basic mode (or if they set up advanced mode but did it wrong) this will stop Google tags from firing unless users consent to advertising cookies.

What CMP are they using and do you know if they’re using Google Tag Manager?
