  • Brand keeps asking to repost, when should you start charging?

Posted by UnicornGoBoom on May 24, 2023 at 2:17 am

So I post makeup content (almost 50k followers on Tiktok and 30k on Instagram) and a very popular makeup brand keeps asking to repost different pieces of my content. I have never asked for money but am starting to get annoyed that popular brands want social media posts for free. I get exposure is great, but at the same time I feel like Im getting taken advantage of a lot of the time. This brand in particular I dont receive regular product from either, its very random with my following size.

The video in question has 175k views on Instagram Reels and 10k over on Tiktok. It also has very high engagement on both.

    * How do you professionally ask for money without it being a turn off
    * At 50k followers, is it ok to charge for reposts or should I be doing things for exposure?

    Do not work for exposure.

It’s reasonable to charge them. They ask because too many people are flattered to even get the request. If it wasn’t valuable to them, they wouldn’t bother to ask you.

You can charge them for usage rights. If you don’t want to do that then next time they ask to repost ask about doing a sponsored collaboration as well.

Yeah as all others have said, charge them, either to repost or make a new video. Sounds like they want you to be a party if a bigger media strategy.

Either way, you’re too big to ignore, and you can use that for your advantage.

Do the opposite. If they ask you to post something: expose them as trying to use your account for marketing purposes.

Don’t sell out! Your integrity is worth a lot more.

And then become a real Makeup Advisor. Independent, unsponsored etc.

Definitely get compensated. I am a brand owner and I use influencers like yourself to get exposure but I pay. Your called a micro influencer and you are a target for these brands as you can see.

Right now you’re not getting paid so what do you have to lose? When they message you, you can just respond like “I would love to repost/create a new video for your band! Here’s what I charge per post/video. Please send over whatever guidelines you have and any other requirements you have so I can review them.” Or something similar

In regards to feeling like a sell out you can pick and choose which brands to work with. Only work with brands you like and that solves that problem.

Okay, you’re questions about how to ask money professionally , you could direct or indirect charge with them. You could talk to them through email and explain your service is not free of charge and be concise and precise on the invoice of their fees. It’s reasonable that you charge them because of your service that has been made, another thing is you could talk to them personally and made a deal if they want to continue doing your service with them, you’ll have to charge with every task you will have done, or you can let them go.
