Asking your friends to google your Keyword and click on your site — what’s this action called?
I’m pretty sure it’s black hat, or at least grey hat — asking your friends / audience to Google the keyword you want to rank for, then click on your link.
Technically, this would work, wouldn’t it?
What’s the term for this?
Something I wouldn’t do, but trying to warn some of my clients away from.

CTR Manipulation. And it’s black hat.

Google has said that CTR is not a ranking factor.

Depends on how many friends, on different devices. If you have just a handful of friends, like less than 5, then its really not going to make any difference at all.
Theoretically, with enough friends with unique search histories and devices, you miiigghht be able to swing a little bit of an impact in how Google evaluates the outcomes of different orders of serps… maybe.
But I’m guessing that this sort of CTR manipulation is actually pretty hard to pull off in a big scale way.

Useless, unless you have thousands of friends.

CTR or traffic manipulation and is no longer ranking factor in Google.

If thousands of people every day find your website via branded keywords means Google see you as an authority. This will help you rank higher on all other keywords you’re trying to rank for.
