As a Google/Facebook Ads Specialist working at an agency, how much involvement do you have with clients?
Posted by ppc_platypus on May 26, 2023 at 3:39 amI’ve heard that most don’t speak to clients at all, meanwhile I feel like my role is evolving more into account management. I’m just curious to see what the norm is!

GuestMay 26, 2023 at 3:52 amSometimes it just depends on the size of the shop. I was a one-man digital team handling paid search/paid social/seo for a handful of clients and I acted as a digital account manager for my clients. i.e. they had my office number and email, and I presented reporting to them on a monthly cadence.
I was also a paid ads manager at a much larger agency and I only got called in to chat with clients when they had questions our regular account managers couldn’t answer, or when we were talking high-level strategy in terms of new campaigns, initiatives, raising spends, etc.
I can see a paid search/paid social strategist at a larger agency effectively having zero face time with clients, since most of them will have an account manager structure in place. Just my two cents.

GuestMay 26, 2023 at 4:04 amI work at a large agency (1100+ employees) and still communicate with clients on a semi frequent level. If I’m not directly communicating with them I’m on client facing calls going over performance, promos, etc.

GuestMay 26, 2023 at 5:52 amBigger agencies usually have project managers to deal with clients. I work in a smaller one, and for some clients we have an account, but for some it’s faster to just deal with everything as an account myself, especially if the client is bigger and more educated. Saves on time. That has me either deal with the full funnel though, including analytics and GTM, or outsource to freelancers for things I don’t want to do. It’s more involvement, but also sometimes more exhausting. I sometimes wish I had a project manager. Then again, there’s less wasted time.

GuestMay 26, 2023 at 9:02 amI am currently around 50/50, I work in a fairly smallish Agency at around 20-25 people, so there is plenty of adhoc stuff to do, but Im normally the problem solver / numbers guy for these clients

GuestMay 26, 2023 at 9:15 amDepends on the agency structure. Usually you have Project manager who takes care about communication so prob won’t ever talk to a client directly. But tricky part is sometimes PM is just a fancy name for those who simply set tasks in taskmanager. Since they don’t actually ‘manage’ the project now you have to negotiate with clients

GuestMay 26, 2023 at 1:04 pmHaving weekly or biweekly calls is a good practice. You should at least be speaking with them on a monthly basis to keep them apprised of the performance and discuss the way forward (if there is any).
This is general information, it may change depending on your client and the team size.
