  • Archiving old Instagram posts for quality & simplicity

Posted by seohelper on March 26, 2021 at 3:28 pm

I’ve heard that archiving old posts and keeping a less cluttered page populated with only the best performing past 10 or 20 posts, as opposed to a page with hundreds or thousands of posts, would add value by increasing past average engagement and improving overall appearance. Are there any other pros & cons to this approach worth considering? Thank you for any suggestions

The Pros I would personally say:

Showcases the highlights of your business, and shows the most popular posts, possibly drawing in more attention to the account itself.

Gives the business a better quality image overall.

    Cons:

People can miss out on the smaller things and activities your business does, lowering the possibility of connecting with followers on a more personal basis.

On the consumer side, if I see a brand with only 10-20 images in their Instagram feed, I assume they’re a new company figuring out how to show up on social, or that they are not invested in IG as a platform. In either case I would be unlikely to follow unless there was something incredibly compelling about what I saw in those few posts. I can see the value of culling low-performing posts, or older posts that aren’t up to the quality you want for the brand now. But reducing the numbers that low seems too much, IMO.

It depends on the niche. Small business? Clean and up to date. Influencer? The more posts, the more authentic it looks.

This depends on your business, content, and social goals. Would a few posts make you seem like a new account, thus making you seem inexperienced?

Would archiving old posts help because you didn’t have an aesthetic, strategy, or good content prior?

Users scroll through old posts for social proof, especially for big decisions. Prospective students, for example, scroll through posts and browse well into old content of universities they’re considering.

What is your goal, who is your audience and what industry are you serving?

I will say to take posts you think should of done well and post in story. Add to a highlight reel. At the time you may not have had a lot of followers and didn’t get the engagement you would have. Perfect use of the story highlights.

If you are looking to get companies to use you for paid promotions, getting rid of old posts that under-performed will boost your engagement percentages. Giving you a better chance of a paid gig.

Depending on what you intend on using your account for, you may want volume. For instance, I make memes and have made around 1800. But I’ve been contacted by companies to edit photos and videos and create content for them because they have went and seen what I have been able to do consistently.

I think archiving works. But i dont think it should be limited to 10-20 post. Keep as many you like. Archive lower quality post and also the ones that didn’t get much engagement. It did help improve the metrics a bit.

It’s always better to declutter and remove things that dont offer you any value, in life. 🙂
