Any good alternatives to Google Display Network?

Posted by EntrepeNetherlands on July 30, 2023 at 2:49 am

Let’s be honest, GDN is shit. 90% of the clicks come from bots, and most the websites are spammy foreign domains or kids games sites.

I want to reach an actual audience that is interested in my product or service.

So, PPC Gods of Reddit, are there any alternatives that you recommend that yield better results? Or am I approaching Display the wrong way?

Try native advertising platforms like Taboola, Criteo, Outbrain..

Depending on your region they have some quality domains in their inventory. Targeting options are decent.

Just start with implementing the remarketing pixel and target your current audience for example..

I use GDN but ONLY with a big list of hand-picked quality websites that I want to show up on that I keep in a spreadsheet and copy-paste into the Placements targeting, letting Google display your stuff on random sites always leads to trash spam sites otherwise

for general prospecting I use Discovery based on Searched Terms audiences

I find Outbrain, Taboola etc utterly trash

The simple solution for quality inventory is the Discovery network. This is Google’s own inventory across Gmail, YouTube, and the Discovery feed.

You can, of course, also control what placements your ads run on in GDN.

Outside of that all major platforms have a display network, quality can be similar to Google’s.

I would have a look at Tradedesk.

Partner/audience network off for sure. But actually I do see DV360 network with very good cost per engaged visit (view more than one page or more than 15 seconds). So NOT bots.

Tbh if 90% of your clicks are coming from foreign domains and kids games sites, then you haven’t set it up properly.

Start building a negative list. Add words and sites related to kids games and the popular shows in those categories. Then keep adding to this based on where your ads show.

Alternatively, build a list of the sites you’d only like to be displayed on.

There are thousands of free lists available to get you started.

Plus removing ads from apps typically helps.
