  • An update from the r/socialmedia mod team

    Hi everyone,

In a bid to continually enhance the r/socialmedia community, we'd like to outline a few updates and changes from the mod team.

The whole essence of this sub is to be a useful resource for social media professionals and this ethos will always be at the core of everything we do.

    LINKS/PHOTOS

We are lifting the restriction on creating link and media posts. We feel this will add a greater diversity of content to this sub, BUT it comes with a very short leash and we will revert to the status quo if this is not used responsibly. Please follow our content guidelines and only post things that are of relevancy and interest to professionals working in the social media community.

    NEW FLAIRS

Flairs will still be mandatory (which is essential to weed out spam), but we have added some new options:

    • If you have a post relating to a specific platform, you can now flair it with Instagram, YouTube, X etc. (and a reminder, this is not a help desk! We cannot get you verified. We don’t know why your channel was removed. No, we cannot directly connect you to someone at Facebook)

    • Our new 'In The Wild' flair is designed to encourage sharing examples of great content and social media practice that could warrant an interesting discussion. Maybe your NFL team dropped an absolutely banging schedule announcement on Instagram, perhaps NASA's sun and moon accounts blocked one another (they did for real during the eclipse!) We hope that by allowing links and media content, we will be able to better inspire by celebrating good social content.

    • The 'News' flair is for any industry-related news such as Elon Musk buying X, Facebook launching WhatsApp channels, TikTok being banned/not banned etc.

    • 'Discussion' can be used if your topic doesn't fit anything else, but you want to prompt conversation from the community ie. "How do you guys manage work/life balance working weekends" or "What are some creative ways to lean into this specific trend" etc.

    DO:

    • Be active, be supportive, be open to learning new things and hearing different opinions.

    • Use the search function to see whether your query has been covered before.

    • Be polite and civil to one another. Disagreement and debate is fine, but abuse will not be tolerated.

    DON'T:

    • Offer to buy or sell followers, accounts, engagements etc. (zero tolerance)

    • Promote your business/agency/services/job posts outside of dedicated stickies.

    • Post AI generated nonsense.

That's all (for now!) Thanks for helping contribute to this community for social media pros. We're of course open to any feedback/discussion and look forward to creating an even better resource in the weeks and months ahead.

    Your r/socialmedia mods.

Flairs is a great plus. Happy to learn this subreddit is still monitored by mods.
